The rolling properties of a tire’s rubber compound are primarily determined by three interdependent factors: friction [grip], rolling resistance and mileage [longevity]. The dilemma: if you improve one of these factors, it can have a negative effect on at least one of the others. A tire with maximum grip wears out faster and rolls more slowly. If you then make a tire roll faster and last longer, grip in turn is reduced.
With our Black Chili compound, a tread compound that still relies on the latest knowledge in polymer and raw material research, we have provided the bicycle industry with a lasting solution. Depending on a tire’s application, we adapt the compound formulation to the specific discipline—road or mountain biking, time trial or downhill.
